Welcome back to another episode of Touch A Life. I’m your hostt and Relationship Coach — today our conversation is about an important aspect of our lives: self-worth.
Have you ever found yourself saying “YES” when your heart was screaming “NO”? Or stood in front of the mirror wondering why you aren’t “more” of something? If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and this conversation is for you.
Self-worth isn’t just about feeling good when things are going your way. It’s about knowing your value, even on your worst days. It’s about setting boundaries, showing up for yourself, and knowing—deep in your bones—that you are worthy. No conditions. No strings.
Psychologist Dr. Kristin Neff explains that self-compassion is closely tied to our self-worth. Her research shows that people who are kinder to themselves handle setbacks with more resilience and less anxiety. So here's a thought — would you speak to a friend the way you speak to yourself when you make a mistake?
Exactly.
Setting boundaries isn’t about pushing people away. It’s about creating safe emotional space — for yourself and others. Boundaries communicate what you will and will not accept, and more importantly, they protect your energy and emotional well-being.
Let’s make one thing clear: Saying “no” doesn’t make you selfish. It makes you self-aware. Whether it’s turning down a last-minute dinner plan or setting limits with a co-worker, clear and respectful communication is key.
And here’s a powerful reminder: You are not responsible for managing other people’s emotions. You can acknowledge someone’s feelings without absorbing their stress.
Often, it's not the external challenges, but the internal habits that slowly chip away at our confidence. Let’s talk about a few of them:
And let’s not forget the silent killer of self-worth: ignoring your own needs. Remember what they say on airplanes? “Put on your oxygen mask first.” The same applies to life. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
Here’s how I anchor myself every day — and you can try these too.
Morning ritual: I begin each day with a powerful affirmation on a sticky note near my desk. One of my favorites is: "I am worthy of respect, love, and success."
Evening ritual: I journal 2-3 things I did well that day — small wins, big efforts, or meaningful choices. I also reflect on whether I honored my boundaries. It’s a nightly audit of my alignment with my values.
In the workplace: Carry yourself with confidence. Walk tall. Make eye contact. Speak with clarity. And when needed, take a power break. A short walk, a mindful moment, or just connecting with a colleague can work wonders for your energy.
So, what’s the takeaway here?
Self-worth is not a destination. It’s a daily commitment. It’s how you talk to yourself, how you set boundaries, how you honor your needs, and how you choose to show up — for yourself.
Commit to one act of self-respect each day.
Say no when you need to.
Shut down that negative self-talk.
Take a moment just to appreciate who you are.
You deserve it.
